In 2009, World Habitat published The Future of Housing.  This wide-ranging report was based on the collective views of housing experts and outlined key challenges facing the sector in the coming years.  One of the areas for attention was the chronic undersupply of housing facing the UK.

In light of this key issue, World Habitat has sought to identify a variety of means of increasing housing supply from making more efficient use of empty properties to building entire new settlements.  In 2011 World Habitat published, More Homes and Better Places which addressed this issue at a strategic level.  In addition to this broad research, World Habitat has undertaken studies of particular ways of increasing supply.
