On our website there are hundreds of publications available to download addressing many themes in housing including finance and affordability, land tenure and urban issues.

To celebrate World Book Day we’re highlighting our most downloaded publications from the last six months. They include award winning solutions, ways communities are tackling housing issues together and methods to end homelessness.

All are free to download, here’s the top ten:

1.  Community-led housing case studies: these case studies, featuring a cross-section of projects from across the UK. They demonstrate real life stories, key messages and positive outcomes.

2.  2015-16 World Habitat Awards winners and finalists: this booklet includes information about the award-winning projects Caño Martín Peña Community Land Trust, Puerto Rico and Self-Help Housing in the North of England, United Kingdom as well as details of finalist projects from the 2015-16 World Habitat Awards.

3.  BSHF Strategy 2015-18: this is our strategy explaining what we do and why we do it. 

4.  The European End Street Homelessness Campaign: this publication explains more about the movement of cities that are working together to permanently house Europe’s most vulnerable people and end chronic street homelessness by 2020.

5.  “There is no shortage of housing problems – what is needed are solutions.”: in 2016 we celebrated 40 years since BSHF was founded by Peter Elderfield. This publication looks at our current programmes as well as the on-going impact of the World Habitat Awards.

7.  From Halving Homelessness, To Ending It: this report looks at the work of the Y-Foundation (World Habitat Award winner 2014) and how they have  contributed to the reduction in homelessness in Finland. It also includes observations and lessons from a peer exchange.

8.  Liter of Light: Lighting homes and lives one bottle at a time: this publication takes a closer look at the impact of Liter of Light (World Habitat Awards winner 2014) in the Philippines and its replication around the world.

9.  POWER HOUSE nearly-Zero Energy Challenge: this report presents the key findings, conclusions and recommendations identified by Europe’s social, cooperative and public housing providers on working towards a low-carbon economy and delivering affordable and energy efficient homes.

10.  100,000 Homes Campaign and peer exchange report: this report presents the outcomes of our peer exchange to the USA to look at the work of 100,000 Homes Campaign (World Habitat Award winner 2013). Between 2010 and 2014 participating communities found housing for over 104,000 people.
