Scaling-up and Mainstreaming of Good Practices for Sustainable Development

Substantial scaling-up or mainstreaming of good practices is essential if progress is to be made towards achieving Targets 10 and 11 of Millennium Development Goal 7. Various initiatives such as exchange visits, city partnering, training activities, conferences and other forums for networking amongst decision-makers are facilitated by bilateral and multilateral organisations to promote scaling-up of good practices.

This study aims to study selected innovative and award winning projects where initiatives for their mainstream or scaling-up have been undertaken in order to identify:

  • The perceptions of multiple stakeholders about the awarded good practices and experiences from activities facilitated to enable their transfer or scaling-up.
  • Barriers to decision-making on scaling-up and mainstreaming of innovative practices amongst elected representatives, bureaucrats, technical and other stakeholders.
  • Issues to be considered by decision-makers for assessing identified good practices for transfer or adaptation.
